Veterans with multiple qualifying periods of military service may be eligible for up to 48 months of education benefits—yet many are unknowingly leaving up to a full year of GI Bill benefits unclaimed.
The issue stems from the Rudisill v. McDonough decision, a Supreme Court ruling that clarified benefit eligibility for those who have served under both the Montgomery and Post-9/11 GI Bill programs. However, many veterans haven’t received updated Certificates of Eligibility (COEs) and remain unaware that they need to submit VA Form 22-1995 to trigger a review.
